Destiny Online Catalog

The library’s online catalog includes not only the books available for checkout, but a wealth of digital resources available to your student at home as well as at school.

Reading Renaissance and Accelerated Reader (AR)

Reading Renaissance is a set of teaching techniques that includes test and practice components.  Accelerated Reader (AR) is learning information software designed to help teachers motivate, monitor, and manage student reading practice.

The student:
1. Selects a book at the appropriate book level
2. Reads the book
3. Takes an AR quiz on the computer.

Teachers monitor and use data from the program to optimize growth.

Reading Renaissance Goals at Kingsley Charter School
  • Foster a love of reading in all students
  • Accelerate growth in reading ability
  • Develop lifelong readers and critical thinkers
  • Improve test scores

Kingsley's library books are marked using the ZPD dot system to indicate each book's reading difficulty level. Students are assessed regularly to determine their reading level and are notified of what dot level they should be reading.

The dot levels are as follows:

Home Connect for Accelerated Reader

Home Connect is an online tool that allows parents access to monitor their student's AR progress and look up books that qualify for the AR program.  To access Home Connect:
  • Visit the Home Connect (AR) Website
  • Log in using the following credentials:
         Username: Student Number (7 digits)
         Password: Birthday Month/Day (4 digits)
                              Example: Oct 1 = 1001
If you would like to receive email notifications about your child's AR activities, please log into Home Connect and click the Email Setup link in the top right hand corner.

Note: If you have neighbors or friends who prefer email information in Spanish, please let them know that Home Connect will send email notifications in Spanish.

Ways to Use HomeConnnect:
  • Look up the point value of books your child wants to read. You may be surprised how many books are in the database.
  • Subscribe to receive email notifications about your child's AR activities so you know when he has taken a test (and know the result).
